Don't think too hard....
All points were valid 15 years ago when all the extra fluff mattered. If you still need that much help from a supplier, you shouldn't be in business, anyway, as an "OEM".

How soon we forget the debacles of Compaq in the days when you needed to know an engineer there to find out which aftermarket NIC cards would work in there "special" Intel configured mother boards, because the "OEM" ones were unreliable.

You can go online, or even to the corner computer store, and put together systems using off-the-shelf components that are equal in every way, with the exception of saving $50.00 using an AMD processor, which, BTW, will run forever, and will be cheaper than any "OEM" machine of comparable construction.

I want the $50.00 in my pocket or in extra RAM. Subsidizing someone else's inability to deliver a robust product on their own should be a market forces issue, not a strong-arm tactic.

Intel is starting to be the M$ of hardware, and seem to have lifted a couple of pages from their "aggressive marketing tactics" that landed them in court, and that is no justification for being taken in hook-line-and-sinker.

If there main product is somewhat sub-standard, why do you feel the rest of their products are any better???????

It's also neat to see Capellas piping up about Intel - an associate of mine at Compaq testified against Microsoft in a similar way - they were bullies.

But, hey - let's all overlook the bad things because we can make a few more $$'s. Isn't that the New American Way?
