I figured that Intel's success over AMD was due to.....
platform's platform's platform's.

I am an OEM trying to compete in the corporate desktop/home use market. I have 2 vendors i can choose from to supply the CPU. 1 will can supply me a slightly cheeper, better performing, cooler chip and that is all. And the other can supply me with a slightly slower, hotter, and more expensive chip, as well as reference designs for my system boards, Chipsets, Drivers, Hardware validation, Software validation, systemboards, bios updates, an 18 month image cycle, network cards, integrated video, integrated sound, Marketing, networking.

So on one hand i can cut my own neck to sell the superior chip but still have to supply everything listed above @ incredible cost to me, and therfor my clients. Or I can take advantage (like my competitors) of a significantly risk reduced hardware platform, AND CHARGE MORE FOR IT. I wonder what the margins on an Intel system vs. an AMD system are.

I can't believe AMD actually thinks Turion is a threat to Centrino. let's go over it again.

Turion = processor (and from what I have heard it is crap)
Centrino = Processor (PentiumM), Chipset, and WiFi all developed with each other in mind. Not to mention intel still supplied all of the above including ref designs to notebook makers.

the same thing can be said to server products, plus intel also will supply pretty damn good network management tools.

Intel doesn't need to put a gun to anyone's head, it's simple logic.
