Show me a Best Buy or Future Shop that sell Linux Pre-Loaded
Would you buy a car over the internet? Some, a very small percentage do. But most like to see it before they buy it. That's what these stores do. They sell the hardware, Windows just happens to come with it. People do seem to care one way or the other.

I noticed this back when XP first came out. You had ME PC and XP PCs and people didn't really care which they got as ME or XP meant little to them as long as it did what they wanted.

Linux is still a little ways from the product a user would want. I say this due things like digital cameras not working easily due to lacking software for Linux. So it's not really choice yet.

You could consider MAC a choice but then it's hardware not the OS again. If Windows ran on the MAC then you'd see choice and vice versa.

Now honestly Windows does the job and only now is Linux getting to point where it could take some share of the desktop. Even if Linux got to be 10 times better than Windows it would never wipe Windows out. Only if Windows can't do something that Linux user can do will it be a problem for MS and I'm sure that MS will not let that ever happen.
