Minorities make small gains in science jobs

That symphony ALMOST had it right!

George says: "What?s really offensive to me is that someone
can be considered racist simply because they want to ban
the consideration of race all together. When they had
auditions for a major symphony, and they put a curtain
around the musician so that the conductor couldn?t see the
race or sex of the applicant, the politically correct race
police put a stop to it."

That's a great start, but it still may have not been fair if the
auditions were not advertised widely. Word-of-mouth will
result in a narrow pool of musicians. Did the symphony
advertise in all the music schools, all kinds of colleges, all
music websites, all concert halls, radio stations,
magazines, newspapers, newsletters, PBS channels, etc?

I praise them for trying to do it right, but IF they only relied
on local or word-of-mouth, there wasn't fresh blood and
they were wasting their time.

On the positive side, a curtain would give the ugly and
overweight candidates an even break, too! They should
have kept the curtain!

It's not just the minorities who face pre- judgement.
