We just got two AMD servers in on Friday
One of them is a four-way (HP DL585) Opteron model, which came in $4000.00 cheaper than the equivalent four way (HP DL580) Xeon model. After seeing the benchmarks, the choice to go with the Opteron was an absilute no brainer. This server will be serving up our online courses for us for the next four to five years.

The other server we got in was a litle 1U two-way Opteron box. This one will do SMTP/IMAP/Webmail.

In two way servers, the performance of Opteron vs Xeon is almost a wash, with prices being very similar too. When you get into four way servers though, the Opteron servers scale *much* better and leave their Xeon counterparts behind. This is why the Opteron has it's biggest marketshare in the four-way server market.
