I think problems ahead for Apple
even though I love my Apples, and hate my one
remaining Windows PC, I still think the future is
precarious for Apple.
The new generation of consoles are easily
powerful enough for a home of work PC.
Microsoft's fortunes might also be totally ruined
if their console loses out to the PS3.

Essentially the PS3 will be cheaper than a Mac
mini, have all sorts of built-in camera media
connectors, but have 9+ times the processing
power of the Mac mini (at least).
You'll be able to video edit, photo retouch (as
long as someone releases this software), and
probably all the usual desktop functions also.

How about a Knoppix for PS3?
If the vendor makes a drop dead gorgeous UI...

And for rendering CGI film, there's the other 100
million PS3s on the internet to help your PS3 out
(if it needs any help - the gameplay seems to be
film-like in any case!).
