Here's a scenario
... since I've now found where Pentiums are in fact being used and my Itanium idea is blown to bits ...

Apple goes to Intel. Microsoft, now in bed with IBM for XBox PPCs, AND apparently developing a version of Windows to run on it, goes to IBM PPCs OR IBM's Cell processors. Than this whole ugly mess becomes Aptel vs. IBMS. Confusion reigns, nobody buys new computers for not knowing what will run on what, and Linux shoots up the middle since it already runs on all of these platforms. :P

There's nothing so certain as uncertainty.
