Good questions

Interesting thoughts, here's some further ingredients for the
stew. Would MS switch over to an IBM controlled chipset for all
of their business? They've had Intel over a barrell for such a
long time, it's hard to imagine them giving up that power when
IBM is not going to be pushed around.

Also, note that Apple has been working on an x86 version of
OSX for 5 years now (wow, talk about smart managment). Do
you think MS has a secret skunkworks version of Windows that
runs on PPC? Or would they just build from the Xbox OS?

The biggest obstacle would be back-compatibility. Apple,
because of their low market share, have always had more
flexibility than MS, and consequently, less concern with back
compatibility. They really hammered through the switch to OSX
fairly quickly. Given MS' huge customer base and business
customer base, could they even hope to pull off something like
this?
