- Apple is NOT abandoning Mac Hardware!!! Read closely!
-
The news are saying that Apple is ONLY changing their
processors. They have already done this once, about ten years
ago, when they switched from Motorola 68000 family to
PowerPC (IBM and Motorola/FreeScale). That transition was fairly
smooth, even though the instruction sets of those processors
was completely different (CISC/RISC, etc). Mac hardware
platform is not going anywhere anytime soon - it's here to stay.
All that may be changing is the CPU inside. Apple will continue
building 'Insanely Great Computing' marrying superior hardware
to superior OS. The best things about this will be:
1. No more IBM/FreeScale dependence;
2. No more 'Megaherz race' and 'apples-to-oranges'
comparisons;
3. Less expensive hardware (economy of scale)
4. New fast PowerBooks!!!
We shouldn't fear so much. This isn't that bad. - Posted by: Predrag Vasic Posted on: 06/06/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
