digital media wrongs
It is nice to see a further concentration of
power at intel, since they can't get past the P4
in any meaningful way. I really don't think that
the digital rights gateway should be bound to
one company. I am saddened and alarmed for my
legacy equipment, movies and music. I can see my
computer becoming LESS important as a media
device (for new stuff), as there are plenty of
appliances not related to the speed and
efficiency of my computer that I can use to watch
a dvd or listen to the latest music if it's that
important. I see the creation
two data streams, one encrypted that gets watched
by the people who can afford an apple computer
(the rich, hollywood types that buy apple
products for their brand recognition, and not to
work with graphics), and the cracked and hacked
versions that will enivetably surface for the
rest of us. The continued price gouging by
hollywood and the music industry is going to take
it's toll. Let's face it, once a movie comes out
on dvd, it's really old news, and not much more
than television. As for music, the latest
hollywood "crapper" screaming at me how he's
"gonna put a cap in my #ss" or "chop off my head
with his homeys", well let's just say I could
pass on that as well, and frankly if I had any
kids, so could they. I go to the theatre for that
big screen, to be engulfed by the whole
experience, at home that experience is once again
something only for the rich with their screening
rooms in the basement. I do feel for the
industry's fighting the plagurism of material,
especially unreleased, and in the theatre
releases, but putting digital rights management
on MY computer won't stop the profileration of
bootleg releases by various mob agencies.
As for streaming media, isn't that what
a cable box is for? Create a media device for
the living room, fine. Leave my computer, os,
software etc. alone!!
