Marketshare is what the vendors are going to be looking at to decide whether to port their apps again. Installed base of PPC users won't mean anything when trying to determine how many x86 versions they're going to sell.

20 years ago, I was a Mac user, I'm a Windows user now. Considering 20 years ago Apple had 10-15% of the market coompared to their single digit share now tells me a lot of others fit that category. Over the last year or so Mac sales have started to pick up but their still a loooong way off their highs of the early 90's.
