If you haven't tried it, MySQL smokes. If you're still in the thinking about it phase, wait until the release version of 5.0 comes out. It supports stored procedures. Makes it easier to port your SQL Server apps over to MySQL. If you're like us most of your app business logic is in the sp's, which we use as sort of a mid-tier.
