"With server virtualization becomming the norm (with VMware, etc.), it doesn't make much sense to virtualize a 4 processor box. But when you have a 32 processor box, virtualization looks pretty good!"
Been there, seen the demos, ran the numbers and it doesn't add up.
Let's see:
$20k+ for the box
$2-4k for VMWare
So you're looking at $22-24k just to get started.
For that price, I can get a BladeCenter with 10-14 blades, have better reliability, scalability, and be better off.
