Correction
The Athlon 64 X2 and the Pentium D both have cache dedicated to each core. They DO NOT share the L2 Cache. Just thought I would throw that out there.

As you can see both AMD and intel show that there is dedicated cache per core. I do think this will prompt software developers to thread their apps so they are more efficient on dual cores. Of course 80% of consumer PCs probably will not need this extra power, but there are a handful of High end users that will be able to utilize it.
