DSP cores's with their own memory added to a higher level CPU is not news!! It's been done time and again. Hundreds of times..

As for the memory.. at most it's a few hundred KB.. maybe a MB.. after that they'll have to go off die. And get bottlenecked just like all the other general purpose memory accesses.
