It does seem like computing is stagnant, but like
everything else, it's just a phase. The real fly
in the ointment is that there is just not
software to take advantage of the new processing,
in fact the software that we have now is wasting
computer resources, since the code is based on
stuff from 1970. At this point all anyone can do
is try to make legacy software work on some new
processor that allows it to work, but is not
really designed to take advantage of the
computing power available.
I would add a new law "more law" that states
"every year we will get a new crop of better
faster processors (in terms of computing power),
and five years later we will get the software
straightened out"
