Get over the serial number - it's rhetoric
"...if not a serial number, ...to get the uaa on them, network cards are cheap.."

I can't imagine how a NIC card is cheaper than on-chip integration. Never mind we are taling about a laptop here.

"...fast as the tecnology is changing, does anyone really want it built into the cpu.."

Yes. It's cheaper, more energy efficient, better interoperability with other on-board wireless and most times, users just want wireless connectivity - not the latest 802.xx. This seems like a reasonable list of objectives for integration.
