Agreed, but,
I once worked for a company that used the same part numbers for physically incompatible repair parts. Control valves with the same function were given the same part number. (This is extremely stupid in itself.) When the complete valve was replaced it was not a problem, but the repair kits also carried the same part numbers and the components were not interchangeable.

You didn't find the same numbers on two different boards, did you?
