Actually he said 640K was enough for anyone (in 1981?). And he also said the Internet was a 4th or 5th place priority for Microsoft around 1994.

So yes, Mr. Gates is no better at predicting the future as you or I. But he is close to the top when it comes to taking advantage of markets pioneered by others.

Steve Jobs was selling personal computers for about 4 years before the IBM PC was introduced. And while Apple still sells computers that are still years ahead of anything available from the wintel crowd, they'll never have the market share currently held by MS. (Even MS won't have that kind of marketshare in a few years)

So Bill's crystal ball may be as flawed as his OS, but never count out his ability to sell his wares.
