Lessons from before
Funny how a few years can make companies forget about past mistakes. The primary reason the telco's bit the dust was that they over-built their fiber routes and found that most businesses were not willing to pay for high speed services. Traditional copper services still rule and seem to be adaquate for all but the largest customers.

So, without content control, inexpensive hardware and/or access why is fiber to the consumer going to find a welcoming audience now?

One simple advance in head end technology "DWDM" pretty much obsoleted the existing fiber already in the ground. so once the new "fiber is in the ground" how are the ongoing upgraded capabilites going to be addressed?

Not ready for prime time...imho

Fiber is cheap, it's the headend equipment.  No_Ax_to_Grind | 12/22/03
