3/10 Horrible phone
automagrt - 07/19/09
Once again Samsung released a phone without thoroughly testing it. Anymore it seems like companies are rushing to release new hardware/software without fully testing it, and then releasing patches as they find problems. The Epix is one of these. It only took them 6 mos. to fix the escalating ring issue, and they never acknowledged it being a "problem." When I contacted them about it they said that it was a feature. Right... So turning off the escalating ring but it staying on is a feature... Only in Samsung's world. Amazingly though, they fixed this "feature" in the latest firmware upgrade. On a normal day, I reset my phone at least once, sometimes multiple times. Most of the time it's because it has locked up and I have to physically remove the battery. It does this most frequently when I plug it in to charge overnight. Not good if you're on call or use it as an alarm. I've woken up several times to find it dead, and the only way to turn it back on is to take the battery out. Another issue is that even if you put it to sleep so that you can put it in your pocket and not worry about calling people accidentally, if it switched between 3G and EDGE, is automatically wakes up. I've found that a lot of times, I will miss calls but it only rings a couple times. When I've tied calling myself from another phone to test it, it will ring 3 or 4 times before my phone wakes up and starts ringing. I changed how long it takes before going to Voicemail but people still have to let it ring and ring before I even have a chance to answer. Some of these issues are probably more of a Windows Mobile problem then a phone/Samsung problem, but Samsung should have tried to work them out before putting this phone on the market.
