6/10 Good, solid phone, but not perfect

ddye - 10/22/08

The phone is a very good, quality phone. The reception is excellent, and it is a solid unit with great construction. The e-mail integration is seamless, very good. The GPS works well. The phone almost never freezes up on me. The phone backup to PC is very simple and easy to do. Now the bad. There is no software available to record phone conversations! This is not good because I have a need to record phone conversations for business and for conference calls. This is unacceptable. Also, as a previous Palm 650 owner, the BB software usually requires a lot of menu-surfing to get things done. It is a lot more complex than it has to be. Not very natural or intuitive to use. The GPS doesn't talk and may allow you to miss turns while driving. The phone does not have the ability to send or receive SMS text messages or e-mail messages while you are talking on the phone, effectively rendering you incommunicado while you're talking on the phone! Total bummer... All in all, I think BB could have done a better job with this phone. It is a very solid phone, and if you're a business person, it will work fine. I will probably look for a phone that has the above capabilities. It's a good phone, but I'm sure that there is one out there that will serve my needs better.
