7/10 obsolete, no longer supported, unreliable

astonct - 05/16/09

these machines are no longer supported! obsolete, unreliable, lacks speed and capacity. We replaced our with a 35TB optical jukebox from Phantom Data Systems for less than 38K! and we're in a mixed linux, unix and windows environment. optical jukebox www.phantomdatasystems.com

9/10 HP Storageworks, SureStor, IBM 3995, IBM 3996, G Series UDO

opticalinsider - 09/27/09

As long as you can write CIFS, NFS, or http mount point formats you are fine. Use an A3 or certified Blu Ray based optical library from phantom data systems as the replacement. THe copy function will let you migrate all the data from either the IBM 3995 or 3996 which really are G-Series UDO boxes. The HP Surestor is just a straight jukebox and you shouldn't need any special applications for this. Within the Linux environment, the Blu Ray optical libraries will be automatically detected once it's either directly attached or connected on the network. Any copy utility within Linux usually works....you just need the right hardware. You can check with Phantom Data Systems on this as they helped us move over 85 Terabytes of data off our tape libraries and IBM jukeboxes (with 2 SCSI HP surestors as well). http://phantomdatasystems.com/bluray_disc.html http://phantomdatasystems.com/opticalstorage.html
