8/10 Some Quicken thoughts...

I have used Quicken for many years and yes, it can be a little buggy and cryptic at times. Overall, It's a real time saver and VERY convenient. BUTT... Things to think about: (Usually never considered until that fateful day comes). My entire financial life, banking accounts (4) investment accounts (2) and others are managed by Quicken. July 14th, 2006: Our house is hit by a lightning bolt! Computers? FRIED! One workstation and two laptops. Our backup drives survived but nearly all appliances fried also. My workstation is a multi-core XENON (8)for hi end 3D design and animation. replacing it will take several weeks. In my case it took 2.5 months. I had everything backed up but no computer. The backup software is extensive and a reload wouldn't fit on any standard laptop (1.2Tb required) All my finances existed in cyberspace only. Now what? Ever feel like you were dropped in the middle of the Sahara desert instantly? Yeah, I know, Install the program on a laptop also and keep them synchronized... Ugh! In my case, that wouldn't have mattered. Keep the Quicken data files backed up and synchronized on a thumb drive... Yup! Better yet, would that Quicken could be installed to a U3 or thumb drive! Security becomes an issue. On line backup? You trust everything to an online backup service with loss of data or breach waivers of liabilities... So, the bottom line is that we are now back on paper ledgers, just as our bank recommended! (Unless our house burns to the ground)
