64 bit has been around awhile
At my previous job, we had an SGI O2 (purchased in 1999 or 2000) that had a 64 bit processor running Irix, a flavor of Unix. We used it for number crunching and data visualiztion.
Of course, the Intel and Athlon 64 bit procesors will need appropriate development tools and compilers to take advantage of the wider memory path. Haven't seen much advertised yet.
