Kevin Martin is appearing more like a bureaucrat than technically informed.

Essentially, every VoIP service provider with customers in the United States, including Vonage and Skype, must offer 911 and accompany those calls with the location and telephone number of the caller.
Imagine chat services with voice being asked to implement 911 !!! How different is Skype from yahoo messenger voice chat ? so technically all online communication should implement 911 - how bureaucratic of FCC !
But the FCC will soon require an automated address-update system.

In the recently released rules, the FCC suggests several methods for tracking users' VoIP locations, including using satellite-based global-positioning systems.
what a GPS in my PC, laptop, pager, voip-adapter... ? these clowns at FCC have lost a touch with the reality. They think the american people are so dumb to call 911 from yahoo messenger...

It is clear that the telecom lobby is pushing FCC to make voip more expansive and less attractive. I use voip for incoming calls ($5.95 per month) and have a cell phone for calling out. If i need 911, i could use cell-phone. I agree that people who only rely on voip phone for all their phone calls need to have 911 support. But FCCs blanket requirement to have all IP based voice services to support 911 is ridiculous ! What about a lot of customers who don't live in US but have a US phone number which rings in their country through voip. Yes Kevin Martin, please ask Air Force One to stand-by should someone sitting in London needs 911 emergency services on their US voip number. How moronic....
