Optical PCs.
They aren't THAT far off. Another 20-30 years and they will be as common place as today's PCs. Of course we will be whining about our slow 2 TrHz processor, but that another day.

But we only need optical switches to surpass copper. I think we already have them, but the tech is still evolving. I bet in another 10 years, we will have optical hubs, switches, network cards, and highend routers.

Hopefully, we will also have something better than TCP then. I can easily see apartments, and small neighborhoods feeding off of a local fiber in the gigabits. I also see wireless as a taxed service provided by small cities to its residents fed by 3-4 fibers.

Eventually, everything will go through your local fiber to a global backbone. Cells will become as powerful as today's PCs and will be able to do everything from opening your garage to online banking in realtime. The economic growth from assuming everyone, no, everything is seconds away is mind boggling.
