Intel to the rescue
"...making broad statements to get some juicy responses!.."

Yes, you would get responses if your commnet is preposterous.

Rgearding on-off ramps, i generally agree but the good news is Intel will rescue the industry here - as usual.

In 2004, Intel reported in the journal Nature that they have made a silicon modulator that converts a steady stream of light from a laser into electrical digital pulses. Supposedly, a 50-fold advance over the previous experimentally demonstrated record for silicon. A coupld of months ago, they reported a silicon modulator that runs at 10 gigahertz.

The future looks bright ! - Punn intended.
