Too bad
Too bad -- I was hoping to hear that SBC had fixed their
network and had people answering the phone [support] that
knew what a network was. I've heard nothing but complaints
from friends/neighbors with SBC -- and there is a reason I
ditched them years ago for a 10Mbit wireless connection (5Ghz).
With that switch they ended up losing my ISDN line(s) to VoIP as
well.

When I had SBC DSL it was gotten when you COULD get a
"unbundled" pair. Unfortunately even though I had a SBC ISDN I
couldn't get DSL with ANYBODY else (tariff's changed) unless I
also had a SBC POTS line. No need.... Why the disconnection? My
UPLINK speed (the connection directly from them to me)
changed mysteriously one day from 768K to 384K (though I was
paying for the 768K package).

Their rep's question to me? "Did somebody else in the
neighborhood get DSL?". Well -- 1) it doesn't "work" that way. I
wasn't talking relative download speed, I was talking my routers
connection log/speed showing 384K and not 768K with the
hardwired direct connection between us. 2) I am not the phone
company, how would I know if somebody else got DSL?

My recommendation would be to stay as far away from SBC as
possible. Their network does work nicely -- when it works.
Expect 1-3 days every couple of weeks to have a completely
useless connection. Forget their mail or DNS servers (I run my
own) in this equation -- those are worse from what I hear. The
basic Internet connection is overloaded, drops packets, and
laggy as all get out.
