speed Vs costs
I was quite happy with cable (WOW) but two factors drove us to DSL. The kids were spending way too much time in front of the TV while we were at work, and My wife thought she saw a deal with SBC (she had DSL before she moved here, and her father works for SBC - Disclaimer).

WOW speed and availability was great, as fast as at work, and all my equipment ran fine with it. But, They were not able or willing to just let us have naked internet.

SBC presented a "deal" for bundled DSL and phone services that beat the cheapest Cable bundle. Let me just say that you get what you pay for. "Inexpensive" DSL service does not measure up to cable. The lag time with DSL is similar to what I had on dial up. The prime time evening slows on the connection are unbelievable. The phone service has been about the same compared to Corecomm but the internet connection SUCKS and the D^zm modem/router combo that came with it won't work with any of my existing wirelessrouter/firewall stuff.

DShelL may be good for newbie broadband folks or people with no existing network, but my exerience drives me to wait out the two year service trap agreement (18 months left to go!) and I'm switching back to a service that works. Cable won't come back soon enough for me.

False advertising comes to mind as describing the promos that prompted the change to DSL.
SBC "DSL Service" is an oxymoron and Sucks!
