RE: Virtualizing onto mainframes: How to make it fit
My positive experience with VM/370, VM/SP, & VM/ESA colored my view of VMWare on PC platforms when it first came out. On the mainframe, being able to generate & test new hypervisors & supvisors during the week rather than only on weekends sure made my life easier. There was definitely a performance hit, even with "VMassist" enabled in microcode, but I certainly felt there was an advantage. We were able to run separate CICS & batch machines & maintain a better overall up time.
I'm not sure either why he seems to treat this approach as something new.
