RE: OOXML backwards compatibility led Microsoft to ODF
It's not that they can't support it, it's just that there is legal pressure from the EC to support ODF. There is no such legal pressure to implement OOXML. Legal pressure makes Microsoft do things; they don't want another billion-dollar fine.
