Very true
You see short sightedness at all levels in companies today. Basically, upper management knows that if they can make a short-term star of the stock, screw the long term health of the company, that those stock holders who take advantage of it will push for those same CEOs, CFOs, CIOs, etc to be hired at other companies at the next shareholders meeting if the oportunity arises.
At one time, share holders were mainly long-term investors. Today, if the stock doesn't perform in a year or less (and for some, it's much less time than that) then they begin pushing management to make short term decisions to help the stock, even though they weaken the company's ability to compete effectively long term.
