Linux at $100 is more expensive than OEM Windows at $50.
We'd have a better price comparison if Windows and Linux were offered on similar machines from a major OEM.
But even if Windows proved a bit more expensive, Microsoft might easily have the advantage anyway because people know and believe in the brand.

To me, comparisons of price and many aspects of quality are actually not relevant to the choices buyers make. Whether or not they should be is another issue.

Vily's exaggerating when he calls Windows addictive or a source of endorphins, but the useful point is it's reliably and comfortably permanent in people's expectations.
