tic, it's not what MS is saying, it's reality.
Regardless of MS saying it, they really are in a "bet the company" situation. Microsoft has never had the kind of pressure they are feeling from both competition and various governments around the world.

In order to be competitive they MUST produce something within the OS market that says it's not a commodity item if they are going to maintain their market position
