What re-training?
Oh, I know the re-training required to show the users that the K is the equivalant of Start! Hmm... 5 minutes tops there. Then the menus are pretty intuitive as well:
Office - Wonder whats in here?
Internet - Ximian Evolution? Yup, looks and behaves very much like Outlook except one very important thing... it isn't an auto virus exporter!
Multi-Media -
Development -

Hey! Where are the games?! Oh yes, we the admins never bothered to install them. Why do you need them in a work environment? And speaking of installing, guess what! All the neato whiz bang toys users like to play and always seem to manage to install on thier win boxes, can't do it with Linux.

Then let's see here, this user only needs to access this web site for this application, and Star Writer, and Spread Sheets as well as e-mail so I will only allow those icons on thier desk top. No CLI interface, and no other applications to be displayed.

So let's address the training issue again. If I can trim the desktop to a bare minumum of what is required and also just not install a lot of apps that are not required, and 95% of what the users need are very similar in design and function to what they were used to with MS, then what is the training issue?

Granted on the backend / support side there will need to be some training, but if you already have UNIX folks in house, then much of the training is done, all that is left is specifics. And if all you have are MCSE's, then fire them and hire RHCE's problem solved.

The training argument is BS. I have assisted many "stoopid" users in transitioning from MS to Linux, and the comment I hear the most, especially for SuSE 9.0 is, "Wow this is really easy!". The training argument is now and has been a moot point for almost a year now.

PS: I am not an admin of any sort and yet I am able to maintain all 3 of my SuSE 9.0 boxes just fine. Firewalls are in place, apps that I need are in the menu and apps I don't were never installed. I am just an average user that wanted more for less and for $79.00 plus tax I got WAY more that I have ever gotten from MS! One CD / DVD set and I installed onto 3 of my systems and at least 17 others without violating license agreements and breaking the law and paying out the nose. And all the tools I need are there, for $79.00 plux tax.

Not a bad deal if you ask me, and from a German company no less! Red Hat SUCKS period. The Germans have it right with Slackware and SuSE.

Buh bye!
