outside perspective
understand that when an entity migrates away from m$ it is
permanent. m$ doesn't offer any value when you consider
the price you must pay, and i'm not referring to the price to
aquire licenses. you must also consider downtime for every
virus, faulty patch, ie/outlook exploit, etc to get the real
total cost of ownership (tco). the sad part is many
corporations don't even look into the tco and just look at
the up front cost - bad management

at home i run on four platforms and my favorite in order
are:
OS X
RedHat
Solaris
win2k

at least win2k is the most stable os m$ ever produced,
unfortunately it comes in last to the ones mentioned above.
it's unbelievable that m$ even has a monopoly when they
produce 2nd rate software. of course m$ is good at
marketing and locking-in the consumers (and the cio) who
just don't know any better
