Time to wake up
"Re: Good Timing

How is Linux going to save you money when you have to develop, test, and re-write custom windows applications? I fail to see your logic, nor any data to back up your comments. NOW if you had a website link or other data to back up your comment that would be different."

Well, if there is in deed any "custom" software, that will cost money. But assuming they're comming up on an MS upgrade cycle, by going with Linux, and not paying MS, they can probably develope the software that they need. It would be a one time cost, and they could release the code to the open source community where it could/would be refined for other companies, and by default would be refined for them. Otherwise there are already plenty of open sourse programs that can replace MS apps.

"Second thought, they should 'Off Shore' all IT jobs so you could only dream of Linux at home. When your job is 'Off Shored' because you are too expensive, like you say MS is, what will you be saying then?"

Is this just a fantasy wish? They "should" off shore IT jobs? Besides companies don't give a damn about what technology they use to solve thier IT problems. They just care that they get solved. And when the budget is tight, and they see companies like Merryl Linch posting record quarters right after they switched to Linux, well there isn't a CFO in the world that's going question why "our company hasn't looked into Linux".

"Lastly, if everyone becomes a Linux 'expert' then there will be NO need for any System Admins anylonger. If so they can administer the system from India or China. So there you go, now you can have your linux on welfare or unemployment. Because you will replaced with a cheaper counter part, just like you said about Windows."

Not "everyone" will become Linux experts just like not "everyone" is a Windows expert. Please be a little more thoughtfull before you let your fingers type on the keyboard. There will always be a need for Linux admins, just like there will probably always be a need for Windows admins. It's just that one, As a Linux admin I DEFINITELY get paid more, work with better server/client software, and have more produtive time due to lack of patch/reboot issues. And two, well, point one was good enough happy Do a job search on any popular site for Unix/Linux skills vs Windows skills. WOW... Almost 3 times as much demand for Unix/Linux on Dice.com. Nuff said in my book.
