hmmm...I don't recall saying that, perhaps you could point it out?
Now if you want to discuss the relative merits of copyright and whether or not we (society) have the right to make laws to recognize imaginary property boundries (or not recognize them), I'm there with you.

If it's not imaginary, then where does the property go once the artificial time limits have expired? My car, my house, my toaster, etc. do not have expiration dates that would allow my neighbor to come over and use them once the time limits expired. Why does the copyright/patent clause stipulate that there are limits as to how long these exclusive property rights may last? It?s in the public interest that they are not allowed to exist in perpetuity.

Others may also argue that copyrights serve to provide a monetary incentive for creative people. I think the lie is quite apparent when you look at the RIAA model. Where are the majority of the "creative" people/artists making their money? It's not from the RIAA distribution. The real losers from copyright infringement are the RIAA executives who will not be able to afford their jet-set lifestyle they've become accustomed to by riding on the backs of the artists and the unconscionable contracts they are forced into. What comes around goes around, eh?

I would also be willing to argue that the monetization of music (and other mediums of creative expression) has contributed to the general decline in the quality of the music. What incentive does a recording company have to take a chance on an artist when they are focused on the bottom line? Art no longer is judged based on its overall quality, but by how much revenue it will generate for the distribution agents for that art. Imho, the barriers to entry into the recording industry due to high start up costs will be brought down with the change to a digital distribution model and allow a greater opportunity for quality music to find its way to the listener. I believe it will give the power back to the artists (where it belongs) in the end.
