When you click "I agree" on a EULA screen you are making promises to the software vendor, among which are that you won't decompile or reverse enginner the product, usually.

If you do violate the EULA and the vendor takes you to court, the case is tried in the context of contract law. You made promises and you broke them.

People who use GPL software make no promises to anyone because there's no contract. The GPL is a license that the law mandates one must have to distribute someone else's copyrighted work.

If you violate the GPL and the author takes you to court, the case is tried in the context of copyright law.

I don't mean to pick on you but there's a lot of people - even smart people - who post in the Talkbacks about what the GPL is and isn't who are just plain wrong, and I only want to set the record straight.
