Here is why
Average Joe-computer-user asks: "Is it computer? What keys do I use to shoot?"

That's how much they use computer for.

Now next user is interested in multimedia. Multimedia uses patented inventions that are not avialable for free. Not many companies are willing to risk backdor of LGPL becoming GPL and that way trying to intercept commercial code using patented solutions.

Resolve licensing/patent conflicts to secure secrets and there will be more software for casual Joe. Then Joe may come to nearest store and pick Linux workstation that runs on fresh, fancy notebook instead of Windows based one.
