Okay, nuance.
Sometimes a simple statement is satisfying, even if it leaves out the details and the hedges.

I have made some use of software from these companies. Frankly, working with pdfs et al is like a large sculpture of a balloon made out of solid pig iron; no matter how light it may look, took some heavy lifting to get it there. And it's not easy to rearrange.

You might add some nuance to your own discussion of how pdf and flash are both open formats. They are open in part, and in part proprietary.
