I'm glad that you are reassured that MSBlast had nothing to
do with the blackout. I can't help but notice some startling
coincidence in timing however. Back on topic - the
Microsoft advocates are quick to point out that they are
being blamed for everything short of Lincoln's assasination,
and that we should be aware of MS contributions. The other
camp is pointing at the fact that where Microsoft appears
antitrust issues and endemic software problems abound.

My point continues to be - shouldn't we be asking more of
our primary digital vendor. Most of us make it through life
without breaking the nations laws - shouldn't MS be held to
this standard. With Quicktime and Real being arguably
technologically superior and substantially more open to use
and contribution - why are they such 5th and 6th wheels?

Real is making the same arguments as the EU. Has the DoJ
been wrong, the EU, Apple , Real, Sun the list goes on and
on. Everybody except Microsoft has been wrong? As they
make a play for creative digital content, they risk a
dangerous level of market consolidation around one
company. Their own customers have become their weapon
of choice. Their advocates have become their human shield.

The API and codec issues disclosed in the Real complaint
are the essence of this problem. Microsoft will not share the
digital landscape, this must be clear by now. Unless forced,
MS will continue to nurture and propogate barriers to entry
and our tech market will be asked to balance on a point -
that point will be Redmond. Our markets and the
consumers they support will be done a huge disservice.
