Any opportunity for Microsoft's past practices to be dragged
into the light of day is good. Is it relevant? It sure seems to
be. With the overcharging suits being paid out and the DoJ
suit putting a leash on MS - with security experts pointing
to MS Blast as a possible reason for the eastern blackout -
it's a smoking gun. It is pointing at a large and ongoing
breach of consumer trust and misuse of open markets. This
is corporate feudalism at it's best. Microsoft has chosen to
break the law now on a number of occasions. It continues
to. Perhaps we should be asking more of our vendors. Is
Real just yet another sour-grapes competitor that can't
succeed without the government's help? Perhaps Apple as
well?

One thing is clear from this chain of events. Microsoft has
been shown that "bending" the law is in their interest. As
long as they can secure public support for their product
they can afford the fines. No one can fault them for not
working on behalf of the public interest - they give the
people what they want. What they want, it seems is
substandard code and security in numbers. Who knew?
