It didnt effect any of the machines I have with AGP slots and factory DVD-ROM's going back to the sawtooth era. There are lots of thins that can cause a drive not to work. From somthing as simple as a curent kext cache, to a 3rd party piece of software. You were obviously able to install 10.1, which loads the full OS minus the finder to install, in which had it been the OS itself, it would not have booted.
