Linux is cool but not for Power users
I've teached and worked with Linux since about 8 years ago. Before that I used solaris on a sun. I have no problem at all with text interface and I've been able to write cool scripts that were usefull at the time.

I know most of the web sites I build are hosted on a Linux/apache server and I love it. I'm using FireFox as a browser and find it really cool, altough it has some usabilities isues (It's hard to change the save directory when downloading).

But I cant use Linux for work. Around here 100% of buisiness users are Win 98/2000/XP. I know I can read and edit docs using Open Office but I found it tedious for certain power user task. For the average joe it's ok. Also for web purpose, I prefer the Dreamweaver/Photoshop/Illustrator combination. I dont use mush of the Dreamweaver capabilities, but I like the WYSIWYG interface coupled with the direct coding interface.

Many friends and linux advocate have talked to me about the upcoming of Linux in the desktop area. I even tough it possible with Lindows (Linspire) but It fail the needed apps and game support.

I think a linux shift could have appen circa 1985-1995 at that time the Windows / Office combination was not in real force. I wish we all could have a time machine.

(Excuse mistakes and english, I'm just a French Canadian reading this website everyday or so happy
