Re: Guessing at how a dual boot would be used.
I suspect the XP side would be used for a pirated copy of Office, which can provide a marketable skill. What edition of Office could vary with the capabilites of the pc.

Mmm.. So, if they had a choice, the people who chose XP would have to go out and pirate software before they could do anything useful. I agree.

It could also be used for any specialized software that would be helpful in the person's existing business. The better known, at least, applications for these purposes are probably in Windows.

More piracy. Absolutely necessary if the government offers XP. Totally unnecessary if it offers Linux. And the funny thing is, even though the copy of Office is pirated, it's probably not free. $5, $10, $25, what do you think? The poor slobs who chose XP have only begun to shell out money.

On the Linux side, the government is known to be pushing Linux, and governments hire. People may get to know Linux and its applications in order to qualify for a government job.

Aren't you leaving a lot out?

XP chooser: "Hey, man, I just came back from the government and they sold me this PC really cheap! It's got a browser, an email program and a media player!"

Linux chooser: "I just came back, too! Mine has a word processor, a spreadsheet, a database, oh, look, another database! Hey man, you need to be on a network to use those things yours came with. The Old Man on the next block? He says he made a deal with some satellite company. The whole neighborhood can share the Internet, man! He bought two and he's gonna set one up as an email server, a DHCP server, and a web server where we can communicate, man! All you have to do is plug in!"

"Oh, mine won't go on a network - I gotta upgrade."

"Uh! Sucks to be you man, tell you what, though. When we get on the Internet I'll download you a Linux program and then you can have what we have!"

"Oh, you think so, man? That would be great! Man, this XP is merda!"
