Linus went with BK in 2000, I read the email! There are may code management systems, this was just one that offered it's services to Linus. Unix is a trademark owned by The Open Group, there is some debate to the actual ownership (Novell v. SCO Group), but to be called Unix you have to pass TOG certifications. Linux has never been tested or certified (why it is not called Unix, just as BSD is not).

There was no open source equal that could get the job done on time.

They were doing the development and revision stuff via email/SMTP messages, they had SCCS/RCS and now CVS and Subversion, so it is not that big a deal. Anyone can set one of tese systems up!

He donated a lot of licenses for free. He suggested an open source interface to it.

Services were offered, Linus accepted 9at the time) and now he is moving on. That is all there is to it.

Now you know why smart proprietory software houses will not work with them. No, you are the clueless one.

You are welcome to argue your point with Linus, RMS, SUN, SGI, NSA, IBM, etc. You won't get very far.
