Alterego, you are dead on with that one!
"They ask for more computers when, in reality, they need to turn off the ones they have and teach "Johnny" to read."

The district my wife works in is trying to get laptop computers to issue to every student in the wealthier areas. At the same time, they are considering closing two schools in the poorer areas.

She works in the most problematic school in the district; its student body is largely from lower-middle class down to welfare families. Many of the parents work two jobs and are never at home to be parents. She loves those kids and does everything she can to try and help them. She teaches bilingually, because over half of the students speak Spanish only. (She is from Puerto Rico, so it's no problem for her.) Some of the students have recently immigrated to the U.S.; others have spent eight years in school and not learned English yet.

The district is considering closing this school due to poor student performance. What I don't understand is the administration offices for the district are ATTACHED to this school! How much more under their noses could the problem be? They still let it get this far out of hand.
