Wow!
One problem with conspiracy theories is that they eventally become so labyrinthine that nobody can follow them. Best advice: don't go there in the first place.

The truth is far simpler. The bottom end of the stack matures - reaches an asymptote, however you care to put it. Around 20 yeas ago, one company tried to monopolize the desktop architecture and got its a** handed to it. Another company has been successful at extracting extremely high prices for commodity software long after the operating system and base office suite were well understod, mature, and there were legions of new graduates with the knowledge and capability to produce such systems. Now that the compatibility issues that had been so carefully nurtured are being overturned, the industry standardization resumes its natural rise up the stack.

Is the level represented by Websphere and DB2 at risk? You bet your boots! The low end of DBMS is moving into open source, and year-after-year the open source will be moving up the stack. The only way to command a premium in software will be to out-innovate the competition - and that includes open source.

If intrigue is your thing, I recommend "24" on Monday nights - it's riveting. Or buy a used Olds happy
